"Second Chance Romance" was a quick and easy read. A man and a woman, who were in love in high school, but then went their separate ways. They make contact 10 or so years later, and decide to see what happens as they begin to renew their teenage relationship - as grown-ups. He's a goalie for a Canadian hockey team with some uncertaintly about his contract being renewed. She's a divorced mother, an elementary school teacher, with a young child, and living in Canada, but a bit of a distance away. They test the waters and give renewing their relationship, with all the complications of their lives now, a shot. This is a long distance relationship - mostly mother and son spending time with him, mostly weekends. in his house, in his city.

This is a sweet read, without much substance, that touches upon, but glosses over and doesn't really deal with or resolve the complications in their current lives and how that will work, as they attempt to give their old love a second shot.

There are a few serious issues (brought up, but not fully addressed). She's a single, working mother with an 8 year old son by her ex-husband who's not in the picture. He's a good hockey player, but his future with his current team isn't secure. And there's her sweet, smart and funny son - a young boy with his needs to consider.

It's pretty much "stock romance", touching on some important issues, but not resolving them.

Second Chance Romance Up In Flames Book 1 eBook Asrai Devin Reviews

I got Second Chance Romance as a freebie from - apparently they did a price-match. I enjoyed the story of Kip and Mandy, and their second chance at happiness. I almost didn't finish reading the book, though, honestly.

Why? Because of the grammar / lack of editing / lack of proof-reading / call it what you will. There were several to / too errors, missing letters, missing words, punctuation all over the place. Several is an understatement - there were errors at every location of the book. The dialog was very stilted, as well. Some of the errors I just didn't understand, because I don't see how they made it out the door had the author done even a second read of her work before publishing. Truly.

I almost gave the book one star. I didn't because it is my belief that a one-star rating implies that a book had no redeemable qualities. So that put it at two stars again. Then I got to the end of the book and read this note from the author "This book is written with Canadian spelling and average grammar skills. If you notice anything horrible feel free to email me. (...) with the problems an I'll edit and update the book." That irritated me enough, because of the implication that she KNEW the work was poor on a technical level but didn't care enough to fix it, that I nearly gave it one star again. I finally decided on two, because, as I said, the story was a good one.

I would HIGHLY recommend sampling this before downloading, even though it's free.
Thank goodness this was a free book because if I had to pay for it I would be demanding my money back.
I love the disclaimer at then end of the book stating that it was written in Canadian English (whatever that means) and average gramma skills! Yeah as if that will excuse the mistakes. It's as though the writer has not taken note of her primary school English class. I'm V's I've, me v's I, then v's than, its not a well written novel.
The primary school teacher dropping F bombs in inappropriate places, sentences that sounded incomplete. Just things that normal people (not sure about Canadians, though I am sure most of them are quite normal) wouldn't say to each other. The story HAD potential that fell woefully short of expectations. I can't understand why people gave it more than 1 star, obviously they could overlook the grammatical errors, spelling mistakes and lack of character development. Personally I won't be reading anything g from this author again.
NOTE TO AUTHOR Please proof read your work thoroughly before having it published. Use a spell check and gramma check. It makes your work seem rushed and will lose you readers.
A sweet story about high school's sweethearts. Despite Kip being the most popular boy of school and Mandy a library mouse, they fall in love and they become friends and then a couple. Then circumstances force them to choose between their relationship and the persuit of their dreams and they choose to fulfill their personal dreams..
They take separate paths and - after 11 years of silence - Kip contacts her via facebook and they get reunited. Of course they both have the doubt whether they had made the right decision in ending the relationship so many years before and they need a closure for that, but when they see each other again they realize they still have feelings and try to rebuild the relationship. Will they finally have the "happily every after" despite the new obstacles?? ( his carrear as hockey star and her job as teacher and full time mom )

I actually enjoyed the story, I liked that there were not misunderstandings or hard feelings between them and it has some really sweet and romantic moments; unfortunately there are a few problems that kind of ruined the book for me
- In 's book description there is a 2012 update informing that the book has been edited but the kindle edition is still full of typos and formatting problems. Very distracting.
- It starts great but then the story gets a bit slow, many parts lack substance. Sometimes shorter is better than many pages that add nothing to the plot.

Lastly, just for those who prefer clean romances this one is categorized as romance and many reviewers described it as a sweet read. It is indeed sweet but it is a reading for adults as it has explicit sex scenes including anal sex ( there is a warning in the book description about this, but too short so it might be missed )
