The Fables have long been one of my favorite comic book series, and it's run for hundreds of issues by now. The problem with comic books is that they're very fast reading for me, which means that it's not worth it even to buy every collected book as they come out, but rather, to batch a few of them together and buy and read them all at once. That way, you don't lose too much context between story arcs.

Snow White, volume #19 starts off with a very weak series involving one of the minor characters of the series. It builds, however, to an assault on Snow White and Bigby Wolf, with a seeming end to one of the most beloved characters of the series. (This being fairy tale, we know not to take deaths as being final) What's interesting to me is that Willingham appears to be reviving one of the oldest enemies of the fables as it stands, which I hope he does not do, as it would be a weak retread.

Camelot, volume #20 is about Rose Red, Snow White's sibling and as the title suggests, an attempt to recreate the knights of the round-table. The story goes a bit meta, and doesn't end here, but has some very creative possibilities that leaves me hanging. The series has been through a bit of a slump recently, but with these two volumes the action is picking up and I'll be looking forward to the next few volumes with relish.

I've never read a bad Fables compilation, but this volume comes across as a bit rushed compared to earlier entries in the series.
Another homerun by Bill Willingham and the Fables crew. Just downloaded Vol. 21 Looking forward to reading the continuing story.
Bill Willingham ties up some loose ends, but for every situation resolved, another thread of discontent raises its head. Looks like Mr. Geppeto is going to be big trouble in the future, meanwhile will Bigby return? Just a great addition to this awesome series.
How do you set up a disaster to come between two characters you really adore? Red Rose wants to revive Camelot, claim the Arthurian story lineage as her own. Her reasons are noble (literally) \, but her sister Snow White isn't keen on who she is associating with. Conflict is inevitable. Another great tale in the Fables line, best read from the beginning, but so wonderfully drawn and beautifully told. By the way, of all the fantastic covers for Fables, this is the one I wish I could own the original!
Another good book in the series, but no big conclusions. The stories will continue...

Main characters are Rose Red and Show White (and her cubs). Lots of the old favorites, time moves on as Fable Town moves into Mr Dark's castle.

Not much is wrapped up, and some interesting conflicts are shown. I'll avoid spoilers, even though there probably isn't much to spoil. Some of these future stories could be messy, I'll stay tuned...
This is still a great series but the last volume, Babes In Toyland, left me a bit wanting. This volume is better, but still not as good as previous ones. I know Bill is planning more and his storytelling is deep, but I don't know if this series is showing its age, or I'm impatient to get going, but it just seems a bit slower and as a reader, I'm not as involved. I'll still keep reading, because I'm sure that some gigantic surprise is waiting.
[NO SPOILERS] If you're a fan of the series, you're getting exactly what you expect. It's a wonderfully told continuation of the story and although it feels unfinished (since the saga isn't finished yet), if you've read to this point, it's definitely worth the purchase. I'm more than happy to add this to my Fables collection. I'd never claim this is the best of the series (The Good Prince has won that due to my affinity for Fly), but it's certainly worth having in your collection. The only complaint I could possibly have is that the story didn't end on anything solid. However, since it's the pre-penultimate book (there's probably a word for that), I can't fault it for setting up the finale.
